How Remote Work Changed My Life
Apr 6, 2025
When I first heard about remote work, I didn’t expect it to change my life so deeply. Suddenly I had both time and location freedom. I found myself working from cafés, beaches, and quiet mountain towns across Thailand — anywhere with decent Wi-Fi became my office.
How It Started
Back in December 2021, I had just graduated with a degree in Multimedia Technologies. I was creating TikToks daily but had no clear direction. Then someone close to me suggested I try a remote job. I said, “why not?” — and that decision changed everything.
My first remote role was as a Social Media Manager at a global media company with 200+ employees from over 15 nationalities. It was my first full-time job and it happened to be fully remote.
The Work
I helped plan and launch campaigns for drinking game and relationship apps in the Western market. My day-to-day involved content planning, scripting, and producing TikTok videos, drawing from my past experience running my own channel.
The creative freedom was great, but I quickly learned that freedom also demands responsibility. When initial campaigns didn’t perform well, I pivoted. I flew to Chiang Mai, Thailand to meet the team in person, collaborated with local creators, and even partnered with a U.S.-based agency to produce UGC content. Some videos went viral, others didn’t, but every experiment taught me something valuable about global audiences, storytelling, and data-driven iteration.
What I Learned
That first remote job gave me more than just a salary — it gave me perspective. I learned to work across time zones, adapt to diverse cultures, and master the tools that make remote work possible.
Some of the tools I used daily include:
Slack, Notion, and Trello for communication and project tracking
Loom for async video updates and creative reviews
Google Workspace and ClickUp for collaboration and planning
Canva and CapCut for visual creation and presentations
The Takeaways
Learned how to collaborate effectively across 15+ nationalities
Experienced the digital nomad lifestyle while staying productive
Built strong communication habits for asynchronous teamwork
Gained hands-on experience with core remote work tools and systems
Learned to adapt fast, experiment often, and bounce back from failure
Why I Love Remote Work
Remote work gave me independence, but more importantly, it taught me discipline, ownership, and communication. It showed me that great teamwork doesn’t need a physical office — it just needs clear goals, accountability, and trust.
Today, I know how to thrive in distributed teams, communicate across cultures, and deliver creative results without supervision.
Remote work didn’t just change my career; it shaped how I think, create, and collaborate.
